Ever since I was a child I have loved the local church.
I grew up attending New Palestine United Methodist Church in New Palestine, IN where my parents were both involved teaching Sunday School classes and serving on various committees and in different roles. As a kid, if the church was open, we were there. From the children's choir to the Annual Potato Bake and everything in between, our church family was our closest and most significant social network outside of our family.
When I was in seventh grade our pastor invited me to serve at the Billy Graham Crusade as it was coming through Indianapolis that summer and I reluctantly agreed, not wanting to disappoint him, but also not really understanding what serving was going to look like. I attended the several training sessions and then served one of the nights of the crusade and little did I know at the time, the seed of ministry was firmly planted in the soil of my soul.
Over the years, I have served in multiple settings in both volunteer and staff positions and in local churches and para-church organizations. I have served and led in worship ministries. I have served and led in children and youth ministries. I have worked in assimilation and discipleship ministries and I have preached, taught, and cast vision in my current Lead Pastor role.
From the moment I accepted my first vocational ministry position I have always said that my calling doesn't belong to me. It is my honor and privilege to serve the local church through obedience to the Lord's leading and I will continue to do that in whatever ways He sees fit. Acts 20:24 has captured my imagination since I was a teenager and my life's hope is that I will be able to look back on my life when the Lord calls me home and know that through God's grace and the Spirit's leading, I lived up to that ideal to the best of my ability.
24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
My high school sweetheart, Lauren, and I have been married since 2008 and raising our four children together is one of the great joys of our lives!
